2002 kia rio review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. The rio sedan's retail price starts at $9,095. Its price and warranty make it a tempting alternative to a used car.  for 2002, kia has added the cinco five-door microwagon to the rio line. To the rio line. (cinco is spanish for five.) not a hatchback, the cinco reminds us from a rear-quarter view of a saab wagon, and that's not bad. At $10,385, it's a great way to get 24. 8 cubic feet of dirty laundry home from college. It feels stable at high speeds and is an enjoyable car to drive. lineuprio is available in sedan and cinco wagon body styles. A five-speed manual gearbox is standard.  rio 9,095) is offered as the low entry price sedan. Options are limited, as kia wants to keep the rio as strictly an entry-level car and keep it priced that way.  rio sedans come with an upgrade package 380), which includes power steering, tilt wheel, dual covered vanity mirrors and body-color side moldings.  the uniquely styled rio cinco 10,385) comes standard with an am/fm/cassette stereo and the upgrade package, making it a better value when compared with a similarly equipped sedan. The hood is smooth and wraps down to meet the front fenders and the large one-piece plastic bumper cover that sweeps back to the front wheel openings, sculpted to include a lower radiator opening and a pair of brake cooling scoops. The sides are simple as well, curving out at the shoulder line and adorned only by a beltline molding that connects the front and rear bumper lines. The roofline is arched from a-pillar to c-pillar, the highest point at the b-pillar, accentuated by the black-out trim around the side windows. The door handles are bodycolor, but the black outside rear-view mirrors are a jarring note. The rear has a one-piece bumper cap that, like the front, reaches to the wheel opening. The trunklid is high, but is cut down to the rear bumper for an easy liftover into the trunk. All in all, it's an admirably restrained design that fits the 94. 9-inch wheelbase very well.  if the rio sedan is cute, the rio cinco wagon is cuter. Its compact dimensions, identical to those of the sedan, allow it to slip easily into parking spaces. interiorthe seats in the rio and cinco are comfortable and supportive, better than some of the other seats in this class. There are a lot of adjustments on the driver's seat, but the knobs are hard to turn.  interior fit and finish appears to be of good quality. The seats are full cloth and there are matching cloth inserts in the door panels. The glove box door is nicer than on some much more expensive suvs.  the kia's interior is straightforward, with no surprises or fancy features. The cinco gets a tachometer. Otherwise, instrumentation is limited to a speedometer, fuel and temperature gauge set into a panel that elbows down into a center console with the audio and ventilation controls. Audio controls are large and easy to use. Ventilation controls are straightforward rotary dials with a fresh air recirculation lever. It's similar in design to japanese compacts.  forget power windows and mirrors. In keeping with its low-price mission, the rio doesn't even get these as options. The mirrors don't even have remote adjustment. The right-hand mirror wouldn't adjust as wide as we'd like. The handbrake is located on the console between the seats. Three-point belts are provided for outboard passengers only, however, with a lap belt in the center. There are dual depowered airbags up front and the front shoulder belts are height adjustable.  the back seat in the rio cinco wagon is surprisingly comfortable with plenty of headroom and shoulder room. There's adequate foot and leg space, particularly when there's a little cooperation from the front-seat occupants.  the cinco's rear hatch opens easily, lifting high and out of the way. The cargo area is small by suv standards at 24. 8 cubic feet with the seats up, but that's a lot more space than the sedan's 9. 2 cubic feet. The rear seats in the cinco fold down to increase cargo capacity to 44. 3 cubic feet. That's a lot of laundry or a bunch of groceries. The seats don't fold flat, however, and the headrests must be removed before folding the seats down. A nice cargo cover is provided to shield valuables. Rio felt stable and secure, despite its shortish wheelbase. Even at those speeds, engine and wind noise didn't prevent conversation. The engine only gets loud when pushed to higher revs and even then it's more earnest than strained. It's apparent that kia has put effort into reducing engine vibration. This is not pocket rocket, however. At northern arizona's higher altitudes, there was no much power on the long, fast grades. Switching on the air conditioning adds a noticeable load on the engine.  we drove cars with manual and automatic transmissions. The manual on the rio was somewhat notchy but sufficiently precise in operation, the clutch light. The cinco's five-speed gearbox felt smooth and was fun to shift.  the automatic shifted smoothly and it doesn't seem to sap much power from the little engine. There is a slight fuel economy penalty for the automatic, though it's not enough to fret about. The epa rates the rio sedan and cinco wagon at 27/32 mpg with the manual transmission. With the automatic, the sedan gets 25/31 mpg, while the cinco rates 25/30 mpg.  response from the rack-and-pinion steering is quick. Lane-change maneuvers at a track didn't upset the rio. Cornering, as one would expect for this class of car, was a safe and predictable understeer. The rio leans in corners but not severely. The suspension seems tuned more for comfort than sport. The power assisted rack-and-pinion steering isn't overboosted and provides plenty of feedback so the driver knows how hard the front tires are working.  the rio's turning circle is a mere 30. 8 feet and that's tight, folks. With its spunky engine and short overall length, the rio will squirt in and out of places bigger cars can only wistfully gaze upon. As an urban warrior, where agility ranks higher than overall might, the rio reigns supreme.  surprisingly, the cinco wagon actually weighs 6 pounds less than the sedan. And its weight distribution is better-balanced (59/41 percent compared with the sedan's more front-heavy 63/37 percent).  optional 14-inch alloy wheels come wrapped with p175/65r14 tires. Standard equipment is a 13-inch steel rim that is a half-inch narrower and fitted with a 70-series tire. We recommend the optional alloys and for more than the aesthetic appeal of fancy wheels. 1999 ford explorer review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. America's best-selling sport-utility goes for another crown. introductionthere seems to be an unending stream of sport-utilities hitting showrooms, but none have come close to the popularity of the ford explorer.  its roominess, solid reputation for durability, quality engineering, good looks and overall reputation are all factors in its huge popularity. walkaroundbefore the ford explorer existed there was the jeep cherokee with its straight lines and sharp edges. The explorer introduced softer lines and rounded edges and set the prevailing suv style in the process. That look continues.  the distinctive, large grille is flanked by wraparound headlights. There's a slot for air in the bumper, and an air scoop below. The look suggests refined ruggedness, as well as strong family ties with the ford truck family-and that's precisely what the designers intended. There is a new front bumper and round fog lamps, new body side moldings, roof rack and lift gate trim. But the familiar explorer is still there.  the hood slants steeply, which gives the explorer an aggressive look. At the rear-a vestige of its truck heritage-are variable rate leaf springs. Turn the new t-handle toward 'gate' and the top-hinged door rises easily and parks up and well out of the way. Turn the handle toward 'window' and the glass can be raised by itself. Another feature we like is a convenient interior power lock/unlock button on top of the left rear wheel-well for operating the door locks when standing at the back of the vehicle.  a new optional reverse sensing system makes parallel parking much easier. The system uses sonar to warn the driver when anything is less than six feet behind the vehicle. The driver is alerted by a beeping sound that increases in frequency as the vehicle approaches the obstacle; the tone becomes continuous when the rear bumper is less than 10 inches from the object. We found the system to be extremely helpful in accurately judging distances when backing up. It's useful for positioning the explorer for loading and unloading. But entry height is not a serious problem. Shorter folks may find optional running boards helpful.  the overall design of the interior is quite good, featuring the flowing shapes and soft-edged buttons and controls now favored by ford. The various controls are king-size, making them easy to operate when the vehicle is moving, and we give the overall appearance of the instrument panel top marks. Floor consoles have been redesigned. Higher trim levels boast rear cupholders and a storage bin. The optional moon roof has a one-touch-open feature.  seating is a big plus. The front buckets are covered in high-quality cloth with an attractive, subdued pattern. The seats are among the most supportive in this class, with aggressive thigh and side bolsters.  the explorer's other strong suit is its best-in-class roominess, perhaps the key element in its popularity.  safety is improved this year with new optional side air bags. Housed in the outer side bolster of the front seats, they deploy within 30 milliseconds of impact.  a new homelink system can operate up to three remote controls to open garage doors and turn on house lights, which improves safety and convenience. And travelnote provides the driver with an electronic message recorder and play-back system.  three engines are available: a 4. 0-liter overhead-valve v6 rated at 160 horsepower, a 4. 0-liter single overhead-cam v6 with 210 horsepower, and a 5. 0-liter v8 that makes 215 horsepower.  deciding to buy an explorer is not too difficult. Deciding which explorer with which engine and which transmission may take an afternoon of brochure browsing. In between are the sport, xls, xlt and eddie bauer. This is the best engine for most folks. It provides plenty of power for passing and tackling long grades, yet it's inexpensive and delivers good fuel economy. It also comes with the five-speed automatic transmission, which does a gret  the v8 is the best choice for anyone who tows a trailer. It's easy to get in and out. Visibility all around is quite good in spite of the roof's large b- and c- pillars. The driver enjoys that secure, command-of-the-road seating position that's helped make sport-utilities so popular.  the explorer doesn't really drive like a truck. Though more springy than a sedan, the ride is comfortable. Some of that springiness has to do with its rear leaf springs, some of it has to do with the big tires. The suspension does do a good job absorbing road irregularities, though, and that's how it differs from other trucks. There's no excessive body lean in turns. The steering is exceptionally quick and precise. It doesn't wander in a straight line. It's easy to manage on narrow roads. It simply does not drive large.  overall, the explorer feels like a solid, well-built vehicle, though there is a bit of wind noise in the 40-60 mph range.  we're pleased with the acceleration performance provided by the revised 210-horsepower v6. It launches with enthusiasm and maintains that enthusiasm to a degree that would calm any concerns about safe merging with traffic. Like most sport-utility vehicles, the engine becomes noticeably audible under hard acceleration, but it's smooth and quiet under normal operation. Overall, the single overhead-cam v6 engine is a sweetheart. Unless extra torque is needed for towing a car or a big boat, we don't think it's necessary to spend the extra money for the v8.  although the explorer has racked up virtually all of its huge sales numbers with the standard 160-horsepower overhead-valve engine, the 210-horsepower overhead-cam engine is a much better powerplant. The auto mode is used for most driving, which continually monitors and adjusts power to the front wheels to minimize wheel slip. The 4x4 high mode electronically locks the transfer case in high gear, providing a 50/50 torque split between the front and rear wheels; this mode is primarily for driving off road or in extreme winter conditions. The 4x4 low mode switches the transfer case to the lower gear ranges for serious off-roading.  though superior to a car in terms of off-road capability, the explorer is not the leader in backwoods prowess. The anti-lock brakes improve control on slippery surfaces, allowing the driver to brake and steer at the same time. summarythe explorer operates in a populous realm, against some very able competition. It's not the least expensive sport-utility. But for the kind of all-around use most families get from their suvs, the explorer's formula is still tough to beat. assembled inst. 2003 dodge neon review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Practical, affordable and fun to drive. introductiondodge neon is practical and fun to drive. Neon features a roomy interior and is available at an affordable price. Dodge claims it's the quickest production vehicle sold in america for less than $20,000. It has wind-up windows, manual door locks, and 14-inch tires on steel wheels. There's no tachometer, no keyless remote. Floor mats 50) are optional. Mirrors and bodyside moldings are black. Am/fm/cd 125) is available. Power features are available as optional equipment.  sxt 14,895) adds air conditioning, am/fm/cd with six speakers, power windows, power door locks (with speed-sensitive automatic locking), keyless remote, power mirrors, power trunk lid release, full instrumentation, map lights, 15-inch aluminum wheels, bodyside molding, body-color door handles. A trunk lid spoiler is a no-cost option. A power sunroof 695) is optional. A six-disc in-dash cd changer 300) is optional. Power rack-and-pinion steering is standard. We highly recommend opting for abs as it allows the driver to maintain steering control in a panic-braking situation. Cruise control 235) is optional.  r/t 16,735) is designed to be fun to drive. The six-disc in-dash cd is standard, interior lighting is upgraded and there's a trunk light. A leather interior 715) is optional and comes with compass and outside temperature readouts on the rearview mirror. Seat-mounted supplemental side air bags 390) are optional (a smart option, but they don't provide the head protection of a curtain system). Three-point seat belts are provided for all three rear-seat positions.  . walkarounddodge neon maintains its cab-forward design and ovoid headlamps, but new front and rear fascia give it a freshened appearance for 2003.  the new front fascia features a more integrated, more organic design. The upper grille has been enlarged, giving the neon a cleaner, more aggressive, more contemporary appearance. The lower grille is more subtle, yet sportier. The redesigned front bumper better integrates the available fog lamps.  a new rear spoiler is attached at the ends, giving it a more integrated appearance than the previous wing. Last year's spoiler looked more like an aftermarket wing that had been tacked on. New exterior door handles, bodyside moldings and other detail work freshen the neon. All models get new wheel designs.  srt-4's grille is an inverted version of the neon grille. Just behind the lower grille sits a cast-aluminum intercooler; dodge left it visible in keeping with the car's intent. A functional hood scoop and unique integrated fog lamps give it an aggressive look. The tall rear basket-handle spoiler is designed to look outrageous and it succeeds. Sill-mounted ground effects give it the look of a sport compact car. Big tires fill the wheel well openings. Special wheels are designed to channel air to the brakes to help keep them cool.  neon's long wheelbase and wide track contribute to its roomy interior, smooth ride quality and high-speed stability. Full-frame doors reduce wind noise and create a tight seal. The current neon has a more rigid body structure than first-generation models, which results in a smoother, quieter, more controlled ride.  . interiordodge neon features a roomy cabin, with generous front hip room. The driver sits high, for good visibility. Neon's front-seat space is comparable for the class. It has a bit more leg room than a honda civic sedan, a bit more headroom than a chevrolet cavalier. Neon sxt's new rear spoiler restricts rearward vision down low, but not unduly.  sxt's seats are quite comfortable, cushy and supportive. The side bolsters on the seat seemed a bit soft, but felt fine while driving. The new cloth trim feels good and looks like it will hold up well. Vinyl trim on the front edges of the seats gives them a nicely finished look and feel.  dash and door trim are made of a premium material that is soft to the touch, providing an attractive appearance and feel and lacking the plastic look of many compacts. The stereo sounded mediocre. Having to press a button to get the key out of the ignition slot seems like an unnecessarily annoying extra step. It's not a bad place to spend short-to-medium-length trips. Rear-seat roominess is about average for the class.  the trunk is reasonably large, about average for the class. Gooseneck hinges intrude into the cargo space, but afford a relatively large trunk opening. Liftover height is on the high side. The rear seat splits 60/40 and folds down for carrying additional cargo.  srt-4 comes with special interior trim, including a satin-silver center stack, shift knob and door handles. Srt-4 seats are modeled after those in the dodge viper with enhanced lumbar and lateral sections for better support when cornering. Agate-colored cloth is designed to grip the driver. Cast aluminum pedals look like those seen in racecars. A turbo boost/vacuum gauge sits to the right of the instrument cluster, underneath the dash brow.  . driving impressiondodge neon rides well, handles well, and the standard engine delivers good acceleration performance. It doesn't lead the class in refinement, however. It doesn't ride as smoothly nor is it as quiet as, say, a toyota corolla.  neon's single-overhead-cam 2. 0-liter engine delivers decent power. It lacks power down low in the rev range, however. Step on it while cruising at 3000 rpm and it slowly gathers speed. There's a small rush of power that starts somewhere around 4000 rpm, but there isn't great gobs of it. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 8. 5 seconds, which makes it quicker than many more-expensive compacts, including honda civic lx, mazda protege lx, or nissan sentra gxe. New motor mounts for 2003 are designed to reduce noise. Still, the 2. 0-liter engine is relatively unrefined and its boomy and raucous behavior is transmitted into the cabin.  the manual gearbox works well, but shifting is clunky. Manual transmissions have a revised fifth-gear ratio for 2003 designed to improve fuel efficiency on the highway.  automatic transmissions on 2003 models have been recalibrated for improved driveability, and a new, more elaborate electronic controller should provide better communication between engine and automatic transmission.  the suspension does a good job of balancing ride quality and handling agility. The neon is fun to drive on winding roads, offering good response in transient (left, right, left) maneuvers. The suspension does a good job of preventing the car from bottoming on dips, reducing the need to slow way down. When we hit a sharp dip at a neighborhood intersection, the neon's suspension was soft enough to absorb the harshness of the dip, yet it was firm enough and had enough travel to avoid bottoming. The front of the neon did not scrape on this dip, a place where many cars before have scraped. Its fully independent strut-type suspension is designed for high ground clearance and long jounce travel. This improves ride quality while decreasing the chance of bottoming under heavy loads. Soft springs and premium shocks contribute to neon's ride quality.  the brakes that come standard on the se and sxt work w.

Kevin marti drivetrain: when i bought this vehicle it ran, but roughly. I have not tried to start since then. I ran it long enough to ensure a good rebuilder. Did not overheat, fluids were good, no knocks or tics, etc. Does have a 351w but it is not original. It has an 80s 351 with 4bbl and headers. Radiator looks newer. Power steering and alternator brackets look homemade but function. Shaker air cleaner is aftermarket reproduction (not original). Transmission /shifter looks original and worked as it should. 9 inch rear and driveshaft look original. Drum brakes had been freshly rebuilt prior to my purchase and still seem to function well. Fuel system; lines, pump, and tank were replaced prior to my purchase. Tank looks like it from another vehicle (not a mustang tank) but fits well and functions. Exterior: repainted yellow at some point (originally white). Paint is in poor condition. Doors and fenders look original. Doors in good shape with minor dings and scratches. Fenders also has minor dings and scratches with rust pinholes near hood edge on passenger side. All glass in good shape.
